“I never want to leave. I could do this all day,” said VanGorden Elementary School student Samantha Osores halfway through her shift mentoring preschoolers just down the hall from her sixth grade classroom. The experience has even set her sights on early childhood education as a future career option.
Samantha is one of just over 100 sixth-graders who volunteered for the re-launch of VanGorden’s long-standing student mentorship program this school year, The program takes advantage of VanGorden’s unique position as the only Lakota elementary school with preschoolers residing under the same roof.
In the event your student does not have bussing, we will be assigning new carpool numbers to every family. Families with more than one student at VanGorden will have one number assigned for your family.
What if you could create the next Disney theme park? To quote America’s favorite mouse, “Oh, boy!” Sixth-graders at VanGorden Elementary School got a glimpse into life as an Imagineer when they were tasked with dreaming up a new "land."
The transformation of the VanGorden Elementary lobby is now underway. The school’s new Team Togetherness Committee is overseeing the project that highlights the diversity of its students and staff.
