Welcome to VanGorden Elementary

Gail AllshouseOn behalf of all the staff at VanGorden Elementary, I'd like to welcome you and your family to our school community. We are committed to doing all we can to make the experience for every student a successful one.

We firmly believe that a strong home and school partnership is a critical factor in the success of all of our students. Learning is not an easy process! It involves sharing ideas, making mistakes, and attempting new experiences. It involves hard work by everyone - the teacher, the parent, the principal, and most importantly, the student.

VanGorden serves approximately 630 students in grades 2 through 6. We challenge each student and provide opportunities for success. Every school year is a year of setting and reaching obtainable goals, working harder and smarter, and taking our school and student achievement and growth to the next level. Our goal is to equip students to be collaborative workers, self-directed learners, participants in society, information processors, effective communicators, and complex thinkers. Our student success is the center of all we do.

Research and experience shows us that a parent’s involvement in a child’s education is directly related to his/her success in school. To maximize your child’s success, emphasize the importance of education through the following:

  • Ensure that your child is at school on time each day.
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences and school events.
  • Monitor your child’s homework daily.
  • Expect and support positive behavior at school.
  • Read with your child or encourage them to read daily.

In addition, there are numerous volunteer opportunities in which we welcome you to be involved. Volunteers make a tremendous positive impact and enrich our educational program. More information regarding volunteering at VanGorden can be found through your child’s teacher and our Parent Teacher Association. Please consider supporting our school in this way.

Thank you in advance for your support and commitment.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (513) 644-1150 or gail.allshouse@lakotaonline.com.
